Summer in the North East might often be short-lived, but those longer days, occasional sunshine and that fresh burst of energy make it the perfect time to breathe new life into your fitness routine.
Whether you’re already smashing your goals or just need a little motivation to get moving again, switching things up for the season can do wonders. At Sound Mind and Body, we believe fitness should feel fun, flexible and be tailored to your individual lifestyle.
So here are some easy and energising ways to shake up your workouts this summer!
Take it outside. When the sun shows up in Newcastle, we all want to make the most of it – and that includes our workouts! Training outdoors boosts your mood, increases your levels of vitamin D and can make your usual routine feel completely fresh again.
Our location is also perfect for changing up how you get to the gym if you usually drive – Sound Mind and Body is under 5 minutes’ walk from Four Lane Ends Interchange, so you can get the metro or the bus in. You can also cycle or run in, and warm up for your session on your way here!
We love taking advantage of good weather, and our Monday and Wednesday evening circuit classes (7–8pm) often head outside when conditions and numbers allow.
Try something new. Summer is a great time to experiment with different training styles. If you’ve been glued to the same routine all year, even a small change can challenge new muscles and fire up your motivation. Why not try one of our many classes on our class schedule or book some sessions with one of our Personal Trainers, and a find a new passion that keeps you moving as the seasons change.
Set new a seasonal goal. Short-term goals are perfect for summer: they keep you focused without feeling overwhelming. You could try and improve your running pace, work on your push ups, try some new classes, increase your flexibility, there are hundreds of possible things to work on while you get summer ready.
Let us know your goals – our Personal Trainers are more than happy to help you build a plan and cheer you on.
Move more on rest days. You don’t need to go all-out every day to stay active. Summer makes it easier and more enjoyable to keep moving, even on your off days. Take the warmer weather as an opportunity to go out for cycle rides, walks or runs in some of the North East’s great local outdoor areas, such as the coast or in Northumberland.
Listen to your body. Summer can get busy. That’s normal – your fitness routine should flex with your life, not fight against it. Some days you’ll feel like crushing a class. Other days, a walk in the park or 10 minutes of stretching might be all you need. The key is consistency over perfection, you don’t have to start over every time life gets busy.
At Sound Mind and Body, we’re more than just a gym. We’re a supportive community that meets you where you are and helps you grow from there. Whether you’re a regular or thinking of dropping in for the first time, summer is a brilliant time to give us a try.
Come and join us and make this your strongest summer yet.
